Filling facial wrinkles with a person’s own suctioned body fat involves no chance of allergic or inflammatory reaction, unlike other fillers. But fat grafts’ longevity is “unpredictable,” say researchers at UCLA.

Although 69 percent of 580 plastic surgeons surveyed had seen some grafts last longer than two years, 87 percent of the doctors said they inject more fat than needed because as much as 50 percent is reabsorbed after six months. (Collagen lasts about three months; Restylane, about six.)
